If only they could bottle it

A few weeks ago, my friend C. walked into the newsroom and told me she'd just been at the day care, visiting her daughter, and had spotted the E-man running across the playground — arms spread, face aglow, laughing.

"He just looked so ... joyful," she said.

Pause.

"I looked at him and wondered, 'Have I EVER felt that happy?'"

I think the same thing every day.

Not that I begrudge my little boy his ever-present euphoria. But God, I want me some of that.

Where the hell did he get the happy gene? It didn't come from me (on meds) or his dad (should be) (kidding, kidding, Hubs is the ((relatively)) normal one in our marriage, aside from his sponge and old-things obssessions.

But just look at the E-man in this pic from his first Halloween. Have you ever seen a kid this damn happy when he's got a freaking pumpkin stem sprouting from his head?
