... we gathered at the beach for a family reunion.
I revisit that time through photos, laughing again at the memory of my children's startled expressions when they licked their wind-chapped lips and tasted the unexpected tang of salt.
Picture by picture, I go back to that weekend by the ocean.
I cup my daughter's face, brushing away sand from wide brown eyes.
I feel the soft, squishy thighs of my baby. I feel his tiny heart flutter as I hold him up against a darkening sky.
I feel the edges of a broken shell, pressed into my hand by my daughter's eager fingers.
And even amid the shouts of children, the rumble of thunder and the constant roar of the ocean, I feel peace.

What a beautiful memory, and picture -- especially your daughter in the background with the 2 buckets!
I love taking babies to the beach! Almost makes me want to have another one, so I can do it again. Almost. Beautiful post, and picture.
There is something so special about the ocean, and the memories it creates.
Lovely through your eyes, this memory.
We're planning a trip to the beach for October and I cannot wait! Your post reminds me of everything I love about the beach that I can't wait to share with my daughter.
Oh that darling picture....
Very cute.
What a beautiful depiction of that time, and lovely photo, too.

Sigh. That sounds perfect. Your baby girl in that photo? Ovulation-inducing.
