... you'd think I'd be allowed to nurture the other child's locks without protest from interfering people.
But no.
"That boy needs a haircut!" they say.
Much as this annoys me, I'm even more bothered by the speculative stares by those who clearly think I'm the one who deliberately gave my daughter a Wynona do.
Their subtlety astounds.
"Oh. Wow. How ... cute. What made you decide to cut it off?"
For the record: Boy child has had two trims. But he hates them and I like his hair long. So to those who criticize: Shut up. Back off. Go shear your own kids. Buzz them. Hell, Nair them if that's your thing. Whatever. But keep your comments about my children's hair -- or lack thereof -- to yourselves.
Yes, girl child's hair is growing back, excruciatingly slowly to be sure, but at least it no longer resembles Mia on a bad bedhead day. Still, I AM SICK OF EXPLAINING TO PEOPLE WHY SHE HAS A PIXIE CUT.
Alrighty then, with that off my chest, let's move on to something completely off-subject, like my bad manners in not yet thanking Jenny of Absolutely Bananas for this:

I also owe Queeny of It's not easy being queen a big thank-you for this:

And yeah, I know. I'm acknowledging an award for niceness right after a bitchfest about hair. But seriously? HAIR?! Uh-oh. Rage resurfacing. Am heading to the kitchen immediately for the still-warm chocolate chip cookies that will counter it.
PMSing? Why yes. What makes you ask?

Oh yes, I see we are sychronising!!!
But you still do it with wit and flair.
I was often accused of not wanting my child to be girlie - but with daycare and hot summers, I was not one to stand in her way when she wanted short hair.
Now she is older and more style oriented, I am allowing the hair to grow - and she is keeping her end of the deal up by brushing it!
Need a massage? :)
New to your blog, but can I just say that I think your girl looks ADORABLE. Didn't see her immediately post-shear, of course, but how bad could it have been? (Really? THAT bad?). Anyhoo, little boy looks supercute, too. Why on Earth would you cut off those curls? I wish MY BOYS had those curls.

His hair is fine. It's not like he looks like Kate Hudson's gir-er, I mean boy or anything! Sheesh, people need to back off.
And suddenly, I feel stupid for complaining last year when Katie cut an inch from the front of her hair . . .
But, she's adorable just the way she is!!!
A massage and a at least a pound of dark chocolate... !
I feel your pain. Now go eat some dessert and I'll do the same.... what do you mea 'have I had breakfast yet?' Dessert is breakfast.
I used the hate those unwanted comments, too, then I just stopped visiting my relatives.
What is it with people telling you when your kids should have their hair cut? I never got that.
No, I mean I got it. People would say things like that, but I never understood why. That's what I meant to say.
My boy's hair is a long as well and I get "that boy's hair needs cut" all the time from my mom. Not cuttin' it.
I still think your daughter's hair is super cute! I know that's not really the point, but what can I say - I hate jerks as much as the next girl. Maybe you should start offering people hair cut appointments with your daughter. "Oh, you like it? She's free next week!"
As for your son's hair, well, why would anyone cut that beautiful mop?
I'm forever shocked at how others feel they have a right to say anything about someone else's children. Anyway, they are both darling and naysayers should just shut up. How's that for an intelligent response?!
Congrats, you deserve the awards.
And I say keep the boy's hair as long as you can, for as long as you can. ;)
My husband obsesses about the length of the children's hair. He gave the three-month old a haircut. It drives me insane. I have better things to worry about than if a few hairs on my kid's head are out of place.
